Russ Moore Transmissions in Indiana informed us of an important observation.

For many years there has been numerous turbine hub design changes for the General Motors 245mm torque converter. Most of the changes were improvements only while still offering options of compatibility with previous designs.

One manufacturing change does not allow this interchangeability. Turbine hubs designed to be used with the flat type, no lip (see Photo A) clutch piston has the O-ring groove relocated approximately .070 inches lower than the regular design.

If the standard turbine hub is used in this application the O-ring passes completely through the clutch piston losing its seal ability. (see Photo B)

This problem has been seen numerous times and encountered by countless rebuilders.
